Artistic Black & White Studio Portraits

If you love the clean lines and the elegant simplicity of black & white photography, then welcome to my world and Studio Noir. Black and white photography takes away what can often be the distraction of colour, and allows the viewer to focus on the subject. This is one of the reasons that I find it so inspiring. It gives you a chance to appreciate the shapes, shadows and feelings that black and white photography can capture.

You can discover more about my black and white Studio Noir sessions below and maybe even find some inspiration for your shoot. I understand that planning a photoshoot can feel a little overwhelming. Although I’ve tried to cover everything about my process below, I know that you may still have questions to ask. If you do, please don’t hesitate to contact me and I’d be happy to help!

My Studio Noir Sessions

Black and white photography is a style that I love. It produces results that are timeless, taking away the distraction of colour and allowing you to focus on the subjects. It surpasses fashion trends and gives you something that is just as impactful today as it will be in 30 years.

My Studio Noir sessions take place at my Felixstowe studio. They are ideal for families looking to capture everlasting memories that can be enjoyed for years to come. I can take individual portraits of children and siblings, photos of parents on their own and group photos of the whole family together.

Studio Noir at Bailey’s Photography isn’t just for families though. Black and white photography is a fantastic way of capturing intimate moments between couples. You can truly focus on the love that you share and highlight the essence of your relationship.

“To see in colour is a delight for the eye but to see in black and white is a delight for the soul”

What to Expect on Your Shoot

A black and white photography session with me is a personal experience that is tailored to you. My main aim is to make you feel as comfortable as I can. This is the key to fantastic photography that truly captures your personality.

I know that some people feel uneasy in front of the camera. You may feel that a photoshoot isn’t for you because of the common notion that it’s about rigid poses and awkward smiles. That’s where I can help. I have a knack of helping you feel at ease and creating an environment that you feel relaxed in.

Here’s what to expect:

Preparing for your shoot

Once booked, I’ll start preparing for your shoot. I’ll communicate with you every step of the way. This will be a chance to discuss any special requests so that I can create an experience tailored to you.

On the day

Many people don’t like having their photos taken which is why I focus on letting you have fun and be yourself. I will offer guidance and direction towards creating the style of portraits that look informal & natural, without looking staged.

Design & Consultation

After your black and white photography session, I’ll select the best pictures, sprinkle them with a bit of digital ‘magic’ and put together a video presentation to ‘wow’ you. This is the time when, together, we work through the images and choose the ones you want to order & the best way to display them.

Enjoy your memories

Each client’s order is hand-finished, with professional advice provided on how to get the most from your portraits, and with a peace-of-mind guarantee that your wall-art will be replaced at no charge if there is a problem due to materials or production failure.

Your Questions

What happens if we cannot make our appointment?

Your session time is specially reserved for you. I appreciate that sometimes people become ill and, if this happens, I will try to help as much as I can to re-arrange your appointment.

PLEASE NOTE: If you do need to change your appointment for any reason, please give me at least 7 days notice & I will be happy to reschedule for no extra charge. Less than 7 days’ notice could incur a charge of up to £50 depending on the type of shoot.

How do we see our pictures and how long will it take?

Your images are shown at your own special design & consultation session, on a large screen. I will be on hand to help you select your favourite images and suggest the best way to display portraits at home. Most people take 60-90 minutes to choose and make their order. You will not be rushed or pressurised into making the wrong decisions, you will just be shown superb pictures that you may find hard to resist!

Can we bring our pet?

My black and white photography sessions aren’t suitable for pets. They can be very boisterous and being in a closed studio can be stressful for them. In my experience, I find that pet photos are best taken on location where they can be themselves in an open space. This is why I don’t include pets in my studio photoshoots. I do however offer on-location pet photography sessions – find out more!

What should I wear?

Wear something that you will be comfortable in, both standing and sitting. For my black and white photography sessions, it’s also good to keep in mind that these images will be in black and white, so the colour isn’t as important. If you want to add extra interest to your final photos, you could wear something with a pattern on it. I always suggest being mindful of what each person will be wearing so that you don’t clash.
